Labuan Bajo — A Catamaran Xplore 40 speedboat overturned while moored at the Marina Labuan Bajo port in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday morning, Sept. 30. No passengers or crew were aboard, according to a report by detikBali.
The vessel had reportedly been out of operation for about three years. Stephanus Risdiyanto, head of the Class III Labuan Bajo Port Authority and Harbormaster Office, said the boat may have tilted after its mooring line was left too tight as the tide fell.
Why the incident matters to visitors in Labuan Bajo
The incident occurred at a marina used by vessels serving Labuan Bajo, a gateway to Komodo National Park. The report indicates that no travelers or crew members were on the speedboat when it overturned, so the account describes a vessel incident rather than an accident involving passengers.
Stephanus rejected a claim that the boat was preparing to sail to Batam. He said it had not been certified for that voyage. The report did not state that the marina or surrounding tourism operations had been closed after the incident.
