Fire affects 589,23 hectares in North Lombok’s Rinjani park
A fire in Bukit Setampol, Gunung Rinjani National Park, affected an estimated 589,23 hectares by Sept. 24. The Torean hiking route was temporarily closed.

North Lombok — A forest and land fire in Bukit Setampol, within Gunung Rinjani National Park, had affected 589,23 hectares by Sept. 24, according to reports published Sept. 25. The fire was first reported at about 18.50 WITA (UTC+8) on Sept. 22 in the Torean Resort area of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
The affected area was reported as an interim estimate based on monitoring and calculation by the Gunung Rinjani National Park Office. Reports said the fire involved grass, alang-alang, shrubs and other undergrowth. Strong winds and difficult terrain hampered firefighting efforts.
Why the Rinjani fire matters to visitors
For foreign visitors, the immediate practical consequence is the temporary closure of the Torean hiking route. The Gunung Rinjani National Park Office closed the route from Sept. 23 as a safety measure and to support the response to the fire. The reports did not state that all routes in the national park were closed.
The fire was reported on the eastern side of Bukit Setampol, which can be accessed through the Torean route. Smoke was observed at several points during aerial monitoring. The cause remained under investigation in the reports.
Firefighting teams from the Gunung Rinjani National Park Office and other agencies continued efforts in Bukit Setampol and its surroundings. The reported area remained a provisional figure based on monitoring through Sept. 24.
