West Nusa Tenggara launches SIKAP-KI NTB outreach in Sumbawa

Sumbawa — The West Nusa Tenggara office of Indonesia’s Ministry of Law held an intellectual-property outreach session in Sumbawa on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, and introduced SIKAP-KI NTB as a planned service for early information and consultation on IP protection, according to RRI and JPNN Bali.

The event was aimed at micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, artists and creative-economy participants in the regency. Anna Ernita, head of the office’s legal services division, said local products, arts, culture and creative works should be developed into protected intellectual-property assets that can generate added value for communities, according to RRI.

RRI said SIKAP-KI NTB is being developed as an additional digital channel to make intellectual-property information easier to access, faster and more targeted. JPNN Bali similarly reported that the initiative is intended to help residents better understand how to identify and protect intellectual property before moving to formal registration.

The outreach took place at the Sumbawa Regent’s Office hall, according to RRI. The coverage also said the session was designed to give participants an initial point of reference before deciding which form of protection might fit their product or creative work.

What SIKAP-KI NTB is meant to do

According to RRI, SIKAP-KI NTB stands for a system of information and initial consultation for intellectual-property services in West Nusa Tenggara. The platform is being prepared to provide knowledge-based information, initial direction and support for users seeking guidance on trademarks, copyright and other IP categories.

RRI also reported that the service is designed to broaden public access to official IP information and help business owners and creators take the early steps needed before pursuing protection. JPNN Bali likewise described it as an information-and-consultation initiative rather than a completed registration platform.

The reports did not identify any product, brand or cultural asset that had already been registered through the initiative. They also did not provide a launch date for a fully operational public platform.

Focus on MSMEs and creators

The main audience was MSME operators, artists and creative-economy participants, according to both reports. The ministry’s message centred on local products, cultural works and creative output in Sumbawa as assets that can gain economic value when legally protected.

RRI said the office is also working to strengthen intellectual-property awareness more broadly in NTB, while JPNN Bali framed the Sumbawa session as part of early-stage guidance for producers and creators. Neither report described a grant scheme, subsidy or separate technical-assistance package tied to the SIKAP-KI NTB plan.

The reports also did not specify a timetable for processing applications through SIKAP-KI NTB or explain whether the service will handle registrations directly or refer users to another authority after the initial consultation stage.

Why it matters

For Sumbawa producers and creators, the practical significance of the initiative is access to clearer information on whether a trademark, copyright or other form of protection may be appropriate. The reports present SIKAP-KI NTB as an entry point for guidance, not as proof that any local product has already been protected.

West Nusa Tenggara has been expanding its intellectual-property outreach in recent months, including work on communal cultural assets such as Sumbawa tenun motifs, according to RRI. The SIKAP-KI NTB plan fits into that broader effort to link cultural and creative assets with formal protection.
