Labuan Bajo — A Wings Air flight from Lombok circled above Komodo International Airport for 25 minutes on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, before landing safely after heavy rain reduced visibility.
The flight, numbered IW1949, began circling at about 4 p.m. WITA (UTC+8), according to Marwa, a spokesperson for Komodo International Airport. The aircraft could not land immediately because of the heavy rain, which had begun falling in Labuan Bajo at about 3:30 p.m. WITA.
The rain lasted for approximately one hour. The aircraft landed after weather conditions improved, and the airport said the flight was not damaged and arrived safely.
Why it matters to travelers using Komodo Airport
The incident shows how sudden weather can affect flights serving Labuan Bajo, a gateway to Komodo National Park. For foreign visitors traveling through the airport, reduced visibility may mean holding in the air before landing, rather than an immediate arrival at the terminal. The report identifies the affected service as the Lombok-to-Labuan Bajo route and does not state that the airport closed or that other flights were canceled.
The rainfall followed months of prolonged dry conditions in Labuan Bajo. The airport spokesperson said this was the first relatively long spell of rain after the area had experienced a long dry season. No further operational measures were reported.
