Six arrested over alleged Gili Trawangan magic mushroom supply chain

North Lombok — Police in North Lombok have arrested six people over the alleged cultivation and distribution of psilocybin-containing “magic mushrooms” supplied to businesses on Gili Trawangan, seizing a total of 407.63 grams of mushrooms as evidence according to police statements reported in local media.

North Lombok Police’s Narcotics Unit carried out the operation on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, acting on reports of mushroom transactions in the popular tourist island area. The arrests involved two men and four women detained at two locations: a rented room on Gili Trawangan and several sites in North Lombok.

According to reports quoting North Lombok Police Narcotics Unit chief AKP I Nyoman Diana Mahardika, officers first arrested two men identified by their initials R alias A, 30, and K alias D, 32, at a boarding house room in Dusun Gili Trawangan, Desa Gili Indah. Police said they found 11 clear plastic packages containing mushrooms, wrapped in cone-shaped parcels made from banana leaves.

Alleged supply chain

Following the initial arrests, investigators traced the alleged supply chain from Gili Trawangan to mushroom cultivation sites in North Lombok. Media reports citing Mahardika state that suspect R obtained the mushrooms from his wife, identified by the initials M alias I, 34, who allegedly sourced stock from several growers.

Police subsequently arrested M along with three alleged cultivators identified by the initials R alias M, 31, I, 27, and S alias N, 53, at locations in the Bentek area of North Lombok. Investigators reported finding cultivation areas where mushrooms containing psilocin or psilocybin were grown in cow manure at these sites.

According to Mahardika’s account as reported in local outlets, the three cultivators are alleged to have sold mushroom packages to M for around Rp30,000 per package, which were then distributed through R at a reported resale price of Rp85,000 per package to businesses on Gili Trawangan. The specific businesses were not named in the reports, and no separate arrests of business operators were detailed.
