Ubud — International hotel group IHG Hotels & Resorts is preparing to launch Indonesia’s first Kimpton-branded property in Ubud, with the upcoming Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud on Jalan Bisma, a 101-key luxury lifestyle hotel overlooking the Wos River near the town’s central landmarks.
The hotel will mark the Kimpton brand’s debut in both Bali and Indonesia, according to IHG and multiple travel industry reports. IHG previously announced plans for a 101-room Kimpton hotel in Ubud opening in early 2026, and more recent releases and coverage now describe Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud as set to open later in 2026.
Located at Jl. Bisma No. 31, Ubud, the property sits alongside the Wos River within walking distance of Ubud Palace, the traditional art market and the Campuhan Ridge Walk. Online listings show the hotel address and operating details, including check-in from 3:00 p.m., check-out at noon and a minimum check-in age of 18.
Design and concept
Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud is positioned as a lifestyle and luxury property designed to reflect Ubud’s artistic, cultural and natural character. According to IHG and travel trade coverage, the architecture is by Melbourne-based firm Denton Corker Marshall, following the contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside terrain, while the interiors are handled by design studio Threaded Creatives.
Descriptions of the concept emphasise a response to Ubud’s landscape and ceremonial life, using materials such as natural timber, locally sourced stone, handmade tiles and crafted details, complemented by Balinese art and gallery spaces. The hotel is being promoted as a "soulful sanctuary" and a creative, connection-focused setting for retreats, meetings and social gatherings.
Dining and wellness plans
The property is expected to feature five dining venues led by Michelin-starred Japanese chef Hirofumi Imamura. According to industry reports, Imamura will oversee Imamura Ubud, a chef’s omakase restaurant, and Shaku by Imamura, a Japanese izakaya-style venue. Additional outlets are described as Cascara, Pelago and Samana, offering broader culinary experiences for guests.
Wellness is central to the project. IHG and travel industry coverage state that facilities will include a two-storey fitness studio known as The Movement Lab, recovery spaces and contrast-therapy experiences, together with Sakshi Spa, which draws on Balinese healing traditions. Online descriptions also highlight a swimming pool, wellness-focused amenities and creative social spaces such as a podcast studio, amphitheatre and art gallery.
Guest programming is expected to incorporate several established Kimpton brand services, including the "Forgot It, We’ve Got It" amenity program, Kimpton Kickstart with daily coffee, tea and pastries, and the evening Kimpton Social gathering.
Management and market context
Austin Jones has been appointed general manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, according to hospitality trade coverage and IHG-related communications. Reports note that he has worked across nearly a dozen Kimpton properties and will lead the brand’s debut in Indonesia.
With 101 rooms, pool suites and private pool villas, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud adds another international lifestyle-luxury brand to Ubud’s growing hospitality landscape, which is known for cultural, creative and wellness-focused tourism. Industry commentary suggests the hotel aims to attract travellers seeking design-led accommodation, chef-driven dining, wellness and social programming within walking distance of Ubud’s key attractions.
Recent coverage describes the hotel’s opening as anticipated for late 2026, but an exact launch date has not yet been publicly confirmed.
