Parents Collect Children After Abuse Allegation at Central Lombok Pondok

Lombok Tengah — Parents gathered on Sept. 22 to collect their children from Pondok Pesantren Abul Barokat Wannafahat in Bunkate Village, Jonggat District, after the pondok’s leader, identified by the initials AIS, was accused of having sexual relations with three female students.

The case is being handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Central Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The complaint was filed in 2025, but investigators said evidence was still incomplete.

The case has prompted parents to remove students from the pondok

The parents’ action followed a report by the Mataram City Child Protection Institute concerning the alleged abuse. Reports identified the students as santriwati, or female students at an Islamic boarding school. The reported incident concerns the pondok in Jonggat, Central Lombok, in West Nusa Tenggara.

DetikBali reported that parents came to the girls’ dormitory to find their children and take them home. The report said dozens of parents were seen at the pondok at about 10:25 a.m. WITA (UTC+8) on Sept. 22, carrying bags and tote bags to collect belongings.

The complaint concerns AIS, whose full name was not published in the reports. The reports described the allegation as suspected sexual intercourse involving three students; they did not establish a court finding of guilt.

A separate report said the complaint had been submitted to the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police’s Directorate of Investigation for the Protection of Women and Children and Combating Human Trafficking in 2025. The Mataram City Child Protection Institute was still completing evidence requested by investigators, according to that report.

The Central Lombok police unit’s involvement means the matter is being examined through Indonesia’s criminal-investigation system, with a specialist unit handling cases involving women and children. The available reports did not state that AIS had been arrested or provide a final determination in the case.
