Sumba and Flores-Alor — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has warned that coastal flooding could affect the coasts of Sumba and Flores-Alor from Nov. 7 through Nov. 11, 2026. The warning applies during a period when high tides may raise coastal water levels.

The alert forms part of a wider BMKG warning covering Indonesian coastal areas from Nov. 2 through Nov. 17, 2026. BMKG linked the heightened maximum sea levels to the new moon on Nov. 9, 2026, and said the warning was based on water-level monitoring and tidal predictions.

Why it matters to readers in eastern Indonesia

For foreign residents and visitors in Sumba or the Flores-Alor island group, the warning means that coastal flooding is a stated possibility during the specified five-day period. The alert concerns coastal areas, not every location on the islands, and it does not state that flooding will occur everywhere. People in affected coastal areas are urged to remain alert to the effects of maximum tides and to follow BMKG’s marine-weather updates.

BMKG identifies four areas in East Nusa Tenggara for the Nov. 7–11 period: the coast of Sumba, the coast of Flores-Alor, the coast of Timor-Rote, and the coast of Sabu-Raijua. The agency’s warning describes the new moon as a factor that can increase the maximum height of seawater. The reports do not state that authorities have ordered a closure, evacuation or travel restriction.

The warning period ends Nov. 11 for Sumba and Flores-Alor under the cited listing. BMKG’s broader coastal-flooding notice continues in other Indonesian regions on different dates through Nov. 17, but the reports do not give a later validity period for these two island areas.
