Denpasar — Bali Governor Wayan Koster ordered government offices, state-owned and regionally owned enterprises, and schools and universities across Bali to move work and classes online from Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, 2026, as the province sought to ease fuel-distribution pressures.

The order covers provincial, regency and city administrations, vertical government institutions, BUMN state-owned enterprises and BUMD regionally owned enterprises. Public-facing services, emergency operations and security functions are excluded and must continue operating on site.

Public and private schools were asked to conduct learning online during the same three-day period. The policy followed persistent queues at fuel stations and was presented as support for Pertamina’s efforts to supply and distribute fuel safely and smoothly.

Why the three-day order matters to Bali residents and visitors

For foreign residents, the practical effect is that government offices and many public institutions may not provide ordinary in-person services during the order. Services that directly serve the public, handle emergencies or perform security duties remain outside the work-from-home arrangement. Visitors may also encounter online classes at educational institutions and continued fuel-station congestion while the distribution response is carried out.

The provincial government issued a work-adjustment letter dated Oct. 14, 2026. It directed the covered institutions to work from home from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Saturday, Oct. 17. The education instruction applied to public and private schools as well as higher-education activities.

The response was linked to queues at fuel stations in Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan and other parts of Bali. Reports said depots and fuel stations would be opened around the clock in stages, with additional Pertamina personnel and support from the Indonesian Military and the Indonesian National Police for distribution routes and traffic near fuel stations.
