Bali — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) issued a high-wave warning for Indonesian waters from Oct. 17 through Oct. 20, 2026, including the southern waters of Bali, where waves could reach 2.5 to 4 metres.
The warning covers a period when conditions may pose risks to marine activity. BMKG identified waves of 1.25 to 2.5 metres in the Bali Sea and said the combination of high waves and wind could affect vessels in exposed waters.
For visitors and foreign residents, the warning concerns sea crossings, fishing activity and other coastal operations rather than conditions across the island as a whole. Ferry, fishing and other vessel operators are among those whose routes may be affected, while coastal communities face heightened exposure along the southern shoreline.
Why it matters to readers
Southern Bali is a major visitor area, and marine trips, ferries and coastal businesses depend on changing sea conditions. The warning means that a destination may remain open while particular boat routes or nearshore activities face more hazardous conditions. BMKG asked coastal communities, fishermen and vessel operators to check the latest conditions before sailing.
The notice also lists the Bali Sea among waters where waves may measure 1.25 to 2.5 metres. The highest range, 2.5 to 4 metres, applies to the southern Bali waters identified in the warning. Conditions can vary by location, so the agency's maritime updates remain the relevant reference during the warning period.
