Lombok Timur — Kotaraja Village Chief Lalu Supiandi and village treasurer Masran were named suspects on October 20, 2026, in an alleged corruption case involving the management of Kotaraja Village funds in Sikur Subdistrict, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office said the case involved IDR 1.5 billion (about US$10), while an audit report cited by several media outlets estimated state losses at IDR 1.59 billion (about US$10.60).

According to the East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office, funds intended for development and community empowerment were allegedly used for personal purposes, including paying debts and online gambling. Investigators also suspect that dozens of physical development and empowerment activities were not carried out even though their budgets had been disbursed.

The case concerns the management of Kotaraja Village finances for the 2024–2025 fiscal years. Prosecutors said the two village officials allegedly controlled the funds unilaterally without a valid handover report. Revenue from leasing village treasury land and kiosks was also allegedly not deposited into the village treasury account or recorded in the village budget.

Why the Kotaraja case matters to readers

The case shows that alleged misuse of village funds can directly affect services and development at the village level. For foreign nationals living, working, or conducting activities in East Lombok, it is particularly relevant as a legal and local-governance development in the area where they are located.

The East Lombok District Prosecutor’s Office said it had examined at least 55 witnesses and seized 193 pieces of evidence. Investigators also found that funds from the Complete Systematic Land Registration program totaling IDR 221.9 million (about US$1,480) were managed outside the village budget system and were not deposited into the village treasury account.

The two suspects were charged under Articles 603 and/or 604 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, as well as provisions of the Anti-Corruption Law. Suara NTB reported that the maximum penalty was 20 years in prison.

The prosecutor’s office had previously given them 60 days to repay the state losses. According to available reports, the repayment was not made, so the case proceeded to the investigation stage. The two suspects also failed to attend their initial summonses, citing illness, and prosecutors said they would issue new summonses.
