Legian — A fire broke out late on Monday night, 31 August 2026, in the Jatayu area near Sunset Road on the Legian-Denpasar border, with flames visible from Jalan Nakula, according to multiple local reports.

Local media reported the blaze began at about 23:00 WITA and spread through a patch of land used for scrap, temporary shelters and debris. Reporters said the fire scene was still active the next morning, when firefighters were continuing to douse remaining hotspots.

No deaths were reported in the initial coverage, and the cause was still under investigation. Later reporting said investigators suspected a gas leak from one of the cylinders in the settlement as a possible trigger, though that account referred to the wider fire scene rather than a confirmed official final finding.

The fire drew attention because it erupted in the same area as an earlier blaze reported on 27 August 2025. That earlier incident was described as burning construction waste across about 10 ares and being extinguished in roughly 90 minutes.

Independent reports also placed the Legian fire within a broader spell of dry-season burn risk in Bali. One report cited the local weather agency in saying 2026 conditions were longer and drier than usual, while another cited the provincial disaster agency as saying about 160 hectares had been affected by wildfires between mid-April and mid-August.

In the wider region, authorities also faced a major fire in the Sunset Road-Nakula area that damaged homes, vehicles and other property, underlining how quickly fires can spread in dense commercial and residential pockets of southern Bali.
