Penebel — Natural attractions in Penebel, Tabanan Regency, saw a surge of visitors during the Maulid Nabi public holiday on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, with Espa Yeh Panes natural hot spring in Penatahan village and Hanaloka Cafe in Wongaya Gede among the locations reported as busy, according to a local media account.

DetikBali reported that visitors began arriving in the Penebel area from the morning, many traveling in family groups and as young couples seeking cooler air and rural scenery away from urban centers. The outlet highlighted rice fields, surrounding hills and fresh air as key reasons domestic tourists chose Penebel for their day trip during the religious holiday.

Espa Yeh Panes, also known as Penatahan Hot Spring, is a riverside sulphur hot spring facility on the banks of the Yeh Ho River in Penatahan village, Penebel district. Travel services describing the site note that it is a natural hot spring complex with public and private pools, operating daily from around 07:00 to the early evening, and is popular with visitors looking for relaxation in a rural setting.

According to detikBali, one visitor, Arimbawa from Peguyangan in Denpasar, said he traveled with his wife, two children and relatives to enjoy the sulphur hot spring at Espa Yeh Panes. He reported leaving Denpasar at about 8 a.m. WITA, explaining that he chose an early departure to reduce the risk of traffic congestion on the holiday.

Arimbawa told the outlet that he had visited the hot spring several times and still found the experience enjoyable, describing the trip as a family activity during Maulid Nabi. His comments reflect how Penatahan’s hot spring has become a recurring choice for domestic tourists from Denpasar and other parts of Bali looking for short-distance nature tourism.

Visitors circulate between nature sites and cafes

DetikBali also reported increased activity at Hanaloka Cafe in Wongaya Gede village, another part of Penebel sub-district. The cafe was described as one of several venues in the area offering rice-field views and a cooler climate, complementing visits to nearby natural attractions such as the hot springs.

A visitor identified as Ari from Uluwatu told detikBali that he and his partner departed at about 7 a.m. on the holiday with the initial plan to stop at another coffee venue near Wongaya. After finding the original location already busy, they decided to move to Hanaloka Cafe, which offered open views over terraced rice fields and a quieter atmosphere.

Ari said Penebel provided a different leisure experience compared with Uluwatu, where he typically associated outings with beach settings and coastal tourism. He added that food and beverage prices at cafes of this type were considered affordable for couples and families, supporting Penebel’s position as a domestic tourism destination accessible to middle-income visitors.

Rural tourism draw for Maulid Nabi

DetikBali portrayed Penebel as a rural tourism area that combines rice-field landscapes, hilly terrain, hot-spring bathing and cafes with panoramic views, drawing visitors away from Bali’s busier coastal zones during the Maulid Nabi holiday. Penatahan and Wongaya Gede are among several Penebel villages that host attractions ranging from natural hot springs to agrotourism and scenic cafes.

Travel and tourism information services describe Penatahan hot spring as one of Tabanan’s nature-based destinations, emphasizing its riverside setting, sulphur pools and relatively cool air compared with coastal areas. These characteristics align with detikBali’s account of Penebel’s appeal to domestic tourists seeking a quieter environment and different scenery during public holidays.

The local media report did not provide official visitor counts, traffic data or statements from police or local government regarding crowd management on 25 August 2026. Available tourism descriptions similarly focus on the attractions and typical operating hours of facilities such as Espa Yeh Panes rather than specific holiday visitation numbers.

As a result, while Penebel’s nature sites and cafes were reported as busy during the Maulid Nabi holiday, the overall scale of the surge and its impact on transport and local businesses remain undocumented in publicly accessible sources.
