Polish Tourist Found Dead After Three-Day Search in Jembrana

Jembrana, Bali — The body of a 44-year-old Polish national who disappeared after entering the sea at Tembles Beach was found at Air Kuning Beach on Wednesday, about 7.5 kilometres west of the reported incident site, according to Indonesia’s search-and-rescue authorities and local reporting.

Local residents reported the discovery of the body around 5:20 p.m. WITA on Sept. 2, and rescue personnel later evacuated it to Negara Hospital, according to regional reports and search-and-rescue updates. The victim was identified as Marcin Dawid Ryzycki, a Polish citizen, after police and medical personnel compared physical characteristics and personal items, and after contact with a friend who had accompanied him to the area.

How the disappearance unfolded

According to local reports, Ryzycki arrived near Tembles Beach in Penyaringan Village, Mendoyo, with a friend on the evening of Aug. 30. He later entered the sea and did not return, prompting a search after his motorcycle and belongings were found left at the beach.

Search teams from land, sea and air took part in the operation over three days. Reports said the effort included a rubber boat and a thermal drone, along with police, rescue personnel and local residents.

Identification and recovery

Authorities initially treated the victim as a foreign visitor of uncertain nationality, before confirming he was Polish after identification documents were found and checked, according to local media reports.

Separate reports said the body was found at Air Kuning Beach, also referred to as Yeh Kuning in some coverage, and that it was first noticed by residents before police and rescue officers took over the recovery. The body was then taken to Negara Hospital for examination.

Police were coordinating with the Polish consulate and the family on the handling of the remains and possible repatriation, according to local reporting. The reports reviewed did not state the result of any post-mortem examination.
