Denpasar — Bali’s traditional calendar identifies Wednesday, 7 October 2026, as Buda Paing Wayang and sets out guidance on activities regarded as suitable or unsuitable for the day.
The guidance is part of ala ayuning dewasa, a traditional calculation used in Bali to assess whether a day is considered favorable or unfavorable for particular activities. Reports say it is used by Hindu communities in Bali when choosing times for customary activities and rituals.
For foreign residents and visitors, the calendar is a cultural guide rather than a general government restriction. Its practical relevance is greatest when participating in, scheduling or observing Balinese Hindu ceremonies, household moves, agricultural work or animal husbandry. The reports do not state that the guidance creates a legal prohibition.
The calendar favors new agricultural land but cautions against several activities
The day is described as unfavorable for moving house and for beginning the raising of livestock, including chickens, ducks, cattle, buffalo, goats and pigs. Other entries say the day is unsuitable for planting rice and legumes, planting or harvesting crops, building a house, and certain ceremonies, including weddings and cremation-related rites.
At the same time, the calendar describes opening new agricultural land as favorable. It also identifies some activities as suitable, including making frightening objects such as lel akut and conducting a haircut ceremony, depending on the specific calendar entry.
The guidance combines traditional calendar elements, including wewaran and wuku, with the alahing dewasa assessment. The reports attribute the detailed entries to Kalender Bali Digital and present them as customary guidance for Wednesday, 7 October 2026.
