Denpasar — Bali recorded 685,994 direct foreign-tourist arrivals in August 2026, according to the Bali office of Statistics Indonesia, known as BPS. The figure was 1.69% lower than in July but 0.46% higher than in August 2025. Australia remained the largest source market, while France moved into third place ahead of India.
The change comes as Bali’s foreign-arrival figures show both a monthly slowdown and continued annual growth. The data, released on Oct. 1, put Australia first with 161,258 arrivals. China followed with 57,613, France ranked third with 41,937 and India placed fourth with 34,830.
What France’s rise means for Bali visitors
For foreign residents and visitors, the figures describe the composition of Bali’s international tourism market rather than a new entry or visa rule. France’s rise means that French visitors accounted for a larger share of direct foreign arrivals in August than Indian visitors did. The data does not state that France became Bali’s largest market overall; Australia retained that position.
The figures also distinguish between arrivals made directly to Bali and broader tourism totals. That matters when interpreting the result: 685,994 refers to direct foreign-tourist visits recorded for the island in August, not necessarily unique individuals or the number of people staying overnight.
France’s third-place position was accompanied by China’s second-place ranking and Australia’s lead. India’s figure was reported at 34,830 arrivals, placing it behind France in the August ranking. The monthly total declined from July even as the year-on-year comparison remained positive.
