Denpasar — Bali’s traditional calendar marks Saturday, October 3, 2026, as an unsuitable day for Ngaben cremation ceremonies under the Kaleburau influence, while identifying other activities as favorable or unfavorable.
The calendar guidance, reported for Bali, also lists Guntur Umah or Graha as favorable for building or moving a house. Lebur Awu, meanwhile, is described as favorable for building irrigation infrastructure, although it is unfavorable for building or roofing a house.
Why the calendar matters to visitors and foreign residents
For foreign residents and visitors, the entries describe customary guidance used in Bali to assess whether particular activities are considered suitable on a given day. They do not constitute a general government closure or a rule applying to every person in Bali.
Kaleburau is described as unsuitable for karya ayu or yadnya and specifically for atiwa-tiwa, the Balinese term for a cremation ceremony commonly known as Ngaben. Guntur Umah/Graha is listed as favorable for building or moving a house. Lebur Awu carries a mixed designation: it is unfavorable for weddings, meetings, building a house and roofing a house, but favorable for building irrigation.
The report identifies Saturday, October 3, 2026, as the relevant date and presents the entries as part of the ala ayuning dewasa tradition, which distinguishes days considered favorable or unfavorable for particular activities.
