Pancasari — Bali Governor Wayan Koster reiterated the province’s traditional-dress policy on Saturday, 26 September 2026, during a Ngenteg Linggih ceremony at Pura Puncak Duwur Sari in Desa Adat Pancasari, Sukasada, Buleleng.

Why it matters: The policy sets traditional-clothing requirements for government and private-sector workplaces in Bali on Thursdays, full moons, new moons and 14 August.

Koster’s remarks marked nine years since Bali Governor’s Regulation No. 79 of 2018 on traditional Balinese clothing took effect. He said the policy supports the preservation of Bali’s cultural identity, character and continuity, according to Balipost and Radio Republik Indonesia.

The regulation requires traditional Balinese clothing on Thursdays, during the full moon and new moon, and on Bali Province Anniversary Day on 14 August. The requirement applies in government and private-sector workplaces, according to reports by Balipost and Radio Republik Indonesia.

Radio Republik Indonesia reported that Koster delivered a pakeling, or official reminder, concerning both traditional clothing and the use of Balinese script. The clothing policy is set out in Regulation No. 79 of 2018, while Balinese script is covered by Regulation No. 80 of 2018.

The ceremony was also reported under its fuller ceremonial title, including Pamahayu Bumi Wana Kerthi lan Danu Kerthi, Mamungkah, Tawur Balik Sumpah, Melaspas, Ngenteg Linggih, Mepeselang and Mepedudusan Agung Menawa Ratna.

What the policy covers

  • Traditional Balinese clothing is required every Thursday.
  • The policy also covers full-moon and new-moon observances.
  • Bali Province Anniversary Day is observed under the clothing rule on 14 August.

The reports identify the 26 September ceremony as the setting for Koster’s reminder and the nine-year policy milestone.
