Denpasar — Bali is targeting a reduction in its open unemployment rate to 1,4 percent. The target follows a reported rate of 1,52 percent in February 2026.
Provincial officials are assessing Bali’s labor market using figures from the Central Statistics Agency, Indonesia’s official statistics body. The August unemployment figure is expected to be released at the end of the year, while the immediate target is to push the rate to 1,4 percent.
Why Bali’s unemployment target matters to foreign residents
Open unemployment is a labor-market measure, not an immigration status. For a foreign resident, the target does not itself create a new visa requirement, work authorization or employment rule. Its practical significance is that it signals a provincial policy focus on reducing the share of the labor force without work.
The figure applies to Bali as a province and concerns the open unemployment rate. The target was attributed to remarks made on Sept. 29, and the February 2026 rate was described as 1,52 percent. The target is 1,49 percent, with officials seeking to push it lower to 1,4 percent.
The August figure is expected at the end of 2026, providing the next scheduled data point for assessing the provincial rate.
