Gianyar Reports 9,834 Cattle Vaccinated Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Gianyar — Gianyar’s second-period foot-and-mouth disease vaccination campaign for cattle had reached 9,834 animals by Sept. 14, officials reported Sept. 29, covering 93,66 percent of the provincial allocation.

The campaign covers July through September and has a provincial allocation of 10.500 cattle. Officials said the Gianyar Agriculture Agency remained focused on completing the vaccination target and maintaining protection against foot-and-mouth disease.

Why Gianyar’s livestock controls matter to foreign residents and visitors

For people living in or visiting Gianyar, the campaign concerns the movement of cattle and animal products as well as vaccination itself. The disease affects cloven-hoofed livestock, and officials said monitoring of animals and animal-origin products entering and leaving Gianyar would be tightened.

The Gianyar Agriculture Agency also plans to continue communication, information and education efforts for farmers after the vaccination campaign. Those measures are intended to support wider livestock immunity and reduce the risk of transmission across the regency.

Officials said vaccination was expected to reach 100 percent on Sept. 18. The agency also planned to continue the vaccination program in 2027, subject to official direction and policy from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
