Denpasar — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has warned of possible coastal flooding from maximum tides along six Bali coastal areas from Oct. 25 through Oct. 31, 2026.
The warning covers the southern coast of Jembrana Regency, the southern coast of Tabanan Regency, Badung Regency, Denpasar City, Gianyar Regency and the southern coast of Klungkung Regency. BMKG said a full moon on Oct. 26 and the moon’s perigee on Oct. 29 could raise maximum sea levels.
The warning concerns the potential for higher maximum sea levels, not a prediction that every location will flood. The timing of the highest tides may differ by day and hour from one area to another, and the possible effects may vary with local tidal conditions.
Why the warning matters for Bali’s coastal areas
For foreign residents and visitors, the affected areas include beaches, waterfront settlements, ports and other low-lying coastal sites across southern Bali. A maximum-tide event can disrupt activity around ports and coastal communities, including loading and unloading operations, according to BMKG’s wider coastal-flooding information.
BMKG urged people in potentially affected coastal areas to follow marine-weather information and remain alert throughout the warning period. The agency said continued monitoring is necessary because the timing and height of maximum tides will not be identical across Bali.
The warning was issued by the Greater Bali Region III Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency on Oct. 22. The astronomical conditions cited in the warning are the full-moon phase on Oct. 26 and perigee on Oct. 29, when the moon is closest to Earth during its orbit.
