BPBD Bali Records 1,448 Households Hit by 2026 Drought
A BPBD Bali recap for 11 April–16 September 2026 records 1,448 households in 16 villages across four regencies facing clean-water shortages during a longer, hotter and drier-than-normal dry season, alongside dozens of forest and land fires.

Denpasar — — At least 1,448 households in 16 villages across four Bali regencies faced clean-water shortages during the island’s prolonged 2026 dry season, according to a recap by the provincial disaster management agency covering 11 April to 16 September 2026, as reported by Tribun Bali.
Tribun Bali’s 16 September 2026 report cites Bali Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Bali) head I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, who said the agency’s data show drought impacts spreading across multiple regencies and coinciding with elevated fire risk.
The dry season is described in that report and in separate coverage of BPBD statements as longer, drier and hotter than usual in parts of the island, based on monitoring of local conditions and information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The same Tribun Bali article records 52 forest and land fires with a combined burned area of around 202 hectares over the period, separate from the drought-affected household count.
Water distribution and affected areas
According to Tribun Bali’s recap, local governments distributed a total of 1,079,700 liters of clean water to affected communities by 13 September 2026.
Jembrana received the largest volume of emergency water supplies, followed by Buleleng, Karangasem and Klungkung, reflecting where BPBD Bali recorded the highest numbers of households struggling to access clean water.
The BPBD data cited by Tribun Bali list affected villages in four regencies:
- Jembrana: Pendem, Asahduren, Pergung, Bale Agung, Berangbang, Yeh Embang Kauh, Tukadaya and Manistutu.
- Buleleng: Sinabun, Madenan, Menyali and Cempaga.
- Karangasem: Baturinggit, Tianyar Timur and Tianyar.
- Klungkung: Pejukutan.
Tribun Bali reports that BPBD Bali recorded the following clean-water deliveries by 13 September: 576,700 liters to Jembrana, 380,000 liters to Buleleng, 65,000 liters to Karangasem and 58,000 liters to Klungkung.
Earlier BPBD tallies reported by other outlets show the drought impacts building over the dry season. IDN Times and CNN Indonesia both cite BPBD Bali data up to late August and early September, noting 529 households affected across 14–15 villages in three to four regencies during the 11 April–28 August and 11 April–3 September periods, before the figure rose to 1,448 households by mid-September.
The drought also hit agriculture. Tribun Bali reports BPBD data showing around 274 hectares of farmland directly affected, including about 108.60 hectares in Buleleng, 85.45 hectares in Badung and 79.95 hectares in Jembrana, with a further 694.06 hectares of rice fields classified as potentially affected by the dry conditions.
Fire damage and reported losses
BPBD Bali’s recap, as reported by Tribun Bali, links the drought to increased forest and land fire risk and records 52 incidents over the period, burning a total of roughly 202.81 hectares.
Buleleng accounts for the largest burned area in the Tribun Bali report, at about 161.07 hectares, including 153.42 hectares of protected forest and limited-production forest (HPT) and 7.65 hectares of privately owned land.
Other affected areas include 17 hectares in Klungkung — 15 hectares on Nusa Penida and two hectares of vacant land in Gunaksa — together with 12.86 hectares in Karangasem, 8.05 hectares of vacant land in Jembrana and 3.83 hectares of forest in Kintamani, Bangli.
The Tribun Bali article’s headline refers to estimated fire losses of Rp23.4 billion based on BPBD Bali’s recap, but the text cited in that report does not provide a detailed breakdown of how the losses were calculated or which specific incidents are included.
Separate coverage of BPBD Bali’s dry-season warnings by other media likewise highlights increased fire risk in forests, residential areas and waste-management sites, and attributes that risk to an unusually long and dry 2026 season with higher-than-normal temperatures, drawing on BMKG forecasts.
