Pura Demungan — Gianyar police and residents cleared plastic waste, branches and cut timber blocking a river at Pura Demungan in Banjar Lebih Beten Kelod, Desa Lebih, on November 6, 2026.

Why it matters: The operation restored river flow at a site affected by debris and follows repeated flooding concerns in Desa Lebih during heavy rain.

The Green Policing operation targeted sections affected by sediment, narrowed channels and accumulated debris. Police said the work was a preventive measure against flooding during heavy rain, after the river had overflowed and inundated nearby homes during the previous rainy season.

The operation involved Gianyar police, the Gianyar Police Water and Air Unit, military personnel, the Desa Lebih village administration, the Gianyar regency disaster-management agency and local residents, according to Bali Post.

The debris was removed to restore the flow of water. Gianyar’s disaster-management agency transported the waste and other material for further handling.

The cleanup followed flooding in Desa Lebih from the night of November 1 into the early hours of November 2. The village administration said the Tukad Demungan had overflowed again and that low, shallow bridges could contribute to blockages when heavy rain carries debris downstream.

The village administration said it would formally ask the Gianyar Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency to conduct a technical study along the Tukad Demungan and consider improvements to the two bridges.
