Klungkung allocates Rp295 million for three mass ngaben ceremonies

Semarapura — Klungkung Regent I Made Satria has distributed stimulus assistance totalling Rp295 million to three traditional communities ahead of mass ngaben cremation ceremonies scheduled in August 2026, according to local media reports and regional government information.

The assistance is provided as offerings for Pitra Yadnya ceremonies under a regency programme that supports community-organised mass cremations, with the allocation calculated at Rp5 million per deceased person, or sawa, and capped at Rp150 million per group or traditional village, according to Patrolipost and multiple corroborating reports.

Three banjar adat receive stimulus funds

Patrolipost reported that the latest distribution, carried out on Sunday, 16 August 2026, targeted three customary neighbourhoods in Klungkung Regency as they prepared for mass ngaben rituals.

The recipients were Banjar Adat Tengah in Tegak Traditional Village, Banjar Adat Tabanan in Gelgel Traditional Village, and Banjar Adat Tri Bhuwana in Tri Bhuwana Traditional Village.

According to Patrolipost, Banjar Adat Tengah in Tegak received Rp65 million in assistance to support a ceremony for 13 sawa, with the peak ritual scheduled for Thursday, 20 August 2026.

Banjar Adat Tabanan in Gelgel obtained Rp115 million to help fund the cremation of 25 sawa, with its main ceremony also set for 20 August.

Banjar Adat Tri Bhuwana in Tri Bhuwana Traditional Village received Rp115 million for 20 sawa, with the peak ceremony planned for Tuesday, 25 August.

The combined assistance across the three communities therefore amounts to Rp295 million, covering rituals for 58 deceased individuals.

Part of a wider adat support programme

Patrolipost described the payments as stimulus assistance for ceremonial offerings under Klungkung Regency’s flagship programme to support and preserve Balinese customs and cultural traditions.

Similar allocations have been made in other parts of the regency under the same policy, including mass ngaben ceremonies in Nusa Penida and Banjarangkan, where local media and official channels reported assistance calculated at Rp5 million per sawa with a ceiling of Rp150 million per group.

In its report on the three Klungkung communities, Patrolipost noted that the regency’s policy sets assistance for ceremonial offerings at Rp5 million per sawa, subject to a maximum of Rp150 million per traditional village or group, and stated that the amounts for Banjar Adat Tengah, Banjar Adat Tabanan and Banjar Adat Tri Bhuwana follow that formula.

In previous distributions covered by other outlets and the regency’s public information service, Regent Satria has framed the programme as a way to ease the economic burden on residents while maintaining religious obligations and mutual cooperation, known locally as menyama braya.

Ceremonies and accompanying services

Patrolipost reported that Satria and his wife, Ny Eva Satria, handed over the assistance symbolically while residents were preparing offerings ahead of the August peak ceremonies.

The same report said the regent also visited bereaved families and distributed death certificates under the “Pitra Bakti” service in Kamasan and Sampalan on the same day, though those activities were presented as separate from the three mass-ngaben assistance packages.

Mass ngaben ceremonies allow families to combine resources and perform cremations collectively, reducing costs compared with individual rituals and helping communities meet customary obligations. Regional coverage of the Klungkung programme indicates that the regency links its assistance to the number of sawa in each ceremony while applying a financial ceiling per traditional group.
