Manpower Ministry sends first Kemnaker Peduli aid to Flores quake survivors

Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower has begun distributing assistance to communities affected by the recent earthquake on Flores Island through the Kemnaker Peduli programme, with an initial package valued at Rp119.7 million, according to the ministry and national media reports.

The Ministry of Manpower said the first phase of Kemnaker Peduli assistance consists of 250 basic-needs packages, 250 envelopes containing financial assistance and 20 tarpaulins, funded by donations collected from ministry personnel and partners.

According to an official statement from the ministry, Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower Sukro Muhab is overseeing the distribution, which targets residents in West Manggarai, East Manggarai, Manggarai Regency and Nagekeo, as well as other areas on Flores affected by the quake.

Initial deliveries in West Manggarai and Nagekeo

The ministry reported that the first deliveries were carried out in West Manggarai Regency, where Kemnaker Peduli volunteers distributed 60 basic-needs packages and corresponding cash assistance in two sessions, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

On the same day, teams delivered 80 packages and cash assistance to residents in Nagekeo Regency, bringing the running total to 140 packages in the first phase.

The ministry added that a further 110 packages are being prepared for distribution to Reo, Lembor and Mbeliling, areas also affected by the disaster in Flores.

Once distribution to Reo, Lembor and Mbeliling is completed, the first phase will total 250 basic-needs packages, 250 cash-assistance envelopes and 20 tarpaulins, in line with the programme’s initial allocation.

Support from state-owned and vocational training bodies

The Kemnaker Peduli programme has also received support from a state-owned water resources company, Perum Jasa Tirta, which contributed Rp18 million to the effort, according to national media.

In addition, the Forum of Vocational Training Institution Accreditation Bodies (LA-LPK) donated 20 tarpaulins, which the ministry said would be distributed to affected communities in East Manggarai, Nagekeo and Reo to help residents reinforce temporary shelters.

The ministry’s statement emphasised that the assistance is intended to help residents cope with ongoing impacts of the earthquake, complementing larger-scale logistics and emergency operations coordinated by Indonesia’s disaster management authorities in East Nusa Tenggara.

First-phase figures

According to the Ministry of Manpower and national media reports, the first phase of Kemnaker Peduli assistance for Flores earthquake survivors includes:

• Funding raised through Kemnaker Peduli: Rp119.7 million.
• Additional contribution from Perum Jasa Tirta: Rp18 million.
• Basic-needs packages: 250.
• Cash-assistance envelopes: 250.
• Tarpaulins donated by LA-LPK: 20.

Further assistance planned

The Ministry of Manpower stated that Kemnaker Peduli assistance will continue in several areas across Flores, with West Manggarai, East Manggarai, Manggarai Regency and Nagekeo identified among the main targets as post-disaster recovery efforts progress.

Neither the ministry nor national media have specified the timetable, total value or item breakdown for subsequent phases of Kemnaker Peduli assistance for Flores.

Separate reports from the National Disaster Management Agency and other ministries describe broader relief operations in East Nusa Tenggara, including hundreds of tons of logistics moved into Flores and emergency funds for affected regencies, indicating that the Kemnaker Peduli programme forms part of a wider national response to the earthquake.
