Some listings also show a separate collective leave day on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, alongside the Nyepi public holiday.
What happens during the 24 hours of silence?
Nyepi is governed by the four restrictions known as Catur Brata Penyepian: no fire or light, no work, no travel and no entertainment. In practice, that means streets are empty, businesses close and movement across the island stops.
ABC reported that roads and businesses shut down, while electricity is turned off and television and mobile services are limited during the observance. Several travel guides also say the airport closes for the day.
