Prabowo Launches Indonesia’s 100 GWp Solar Programme in Gilimanuk

Gilimanuk — — President Prabowo Subianto launched Indonesia’s 100 GWp solar power programme in Gilimanuk, Jembrana, Bali, on 25 August 2026, according to the Cabinet Secretariat and state broadcaster RRI.

The first phase starts with 14 solar power projects in six provinces with a combined capacity of 5.3 GWp. The provinces named by the Cabinet Secretariat are West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, Bangka Belitung Islands and Riau Islands.

Bali’s role in the first phase

Bali is part of the initial rollout and has been described in local reporting as a key site in the programme, with the Gilimanuk project included among the first projects to move ahead. RRI reported that the Gilimanuk solar plant is planned at 300 MWp, while the wider first package includes projects such as the Gajah Mungkur floating solar plant and village-scale projects in Riau Islands and Bangka Belitung.

At the launch, Prabowo said the government was beginning the programme with six provinces and a total of 5.3 GWp, according to the Cabinet Secretariat. The same source said the president announced the 100 GWp programme officially in Gilimanuk.

Three-phase expansion plan

RRI reported that the programme will be rolled out in stages, with 17 GWp in the first phase, 18 GWp in the second and 30 GWp in the third. Separately, The Jakarta Post said the president said he believed the 100 GW target could be reached in less than three years.

Local reporting also linked the Gilimanuk launch to the “Fat Burning Bali” programme, which is intended to replace fuel-based power generation with cleaner energy. The Jakarta Post reported that the Gilimanuk project is expected to combine solar generation with a battery energy storage system and target commercial operation in 2028.

What the launch signals

The programme is being presented as both an energy-security push and a renewable-energy expansion. Government and local reporting said the initial package includes projects that are already ready for tender or moving toward construction, including Gilimanuk, Jatiluhur, Cirata and Gajah Mungkur.

RRI and the Cabinet Secretariat both said the launch took place in Gilimanuk on 25 August 2026 and that the initial phase covers 14 projects across six provinces. Local reports also said the scheme is meant to expand electricity access and accelerate Indonesia’s shift toward cleaner power.
