Prabowo Orders Faster Flood Response in Bali

Denpasar, Bali — President Prabowo Subianto ordered a faster disaster response in Bali after floods hit the island in mid-September, directing officials to prioritize search-and-rescue work and assistance for displaced residents, according to the State Secretariat and National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

BNPB Chief Suharyanto traveled to Bali to lead the emergency response, while the agency said relief logistics had begun moving to affected areas. The assistance included boats, tents, food packages, mattresses, blankets and water pumps, according to the government statement.

The flooding affected several areas of Bali, including Denpasar, Jembrana, Badung and Gianyar, the same official account said. BNPB also said the emergency status in the province was set for one week from Sept. 10.

Local reporting at the time said the floods had also affected other parts of the island, and that emergency operations were focused on searching for missing people, clearing debris and restoring access to affected neighborhoods.

The disaster prompted warnings from the regional disaster agency in Bali in the days leading up to the flooding, as weather forecasts indicated rain across parts of the island.

Response and impact

According to BNPB, flood-response teams were deployed to carry out searches, evacuation support and cleanup work. The agency said the response involved personnel from multiple institutions, together with basic supplies for residents whose homes or livelihoods were disrupted.

Official and local reports described the flooding as serious enough to trigger a provincial emergency response, with officials emphasizing rescue, logistics and recovery work over the following days.

Prabowo’s instruction came as disaster authorities continued to monitor the situation and coordinate with provincial and municipal governments in Bali.
