Denpasar — Bali Governor Wayan Koster discussed potential cooperation with Switzerland on innovative industries, waste processing and wastewater treatment during a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Konstantin Obolensky in Denpasar on Oct. 21, 2026.
The meeting was Obolensky’s first official visit to Bali. It also covered investment and environmental management, with Swiss representatives expressing interest in opportunities that could support Bali’s sustainable development. The discussions remained exploratory, and further talks would be needed to determine the technology, investment structure and form of any cooperation.
Why the Bali-Switzerland talks matter
For Bali, the proposed areas touch directly on public services and the visitor economy. Waste and wastewater treatment are environmental issues that affect communities, tourism businesses and the island’s broader development plans. In practice, the meeting signals interest in possible international investment and technical cooperation, not the launch of a completed project.
Obolensky was accompanied by Gerhard L. Nutz, the honorary Swiss consul for Bali. During the visit, the ambassador also planned to inspect businesses owned by Swiss nationals or Swiss companies and meet members of the Swiss diaspora. About 700 Swiss nationals were reported to live and work in Bali.
The meeting took place at the Jayasabha governor’s residence in Denpasar and was described as an initial step toward broader Bali-Switzerland cooperation. The reports did not state a finalized investment agreement, project timetable or funding commitment.
