Bali logged 697,809 foreign tourist visits in July 2026, BPS Bali says

Denpasar — Bali recorded 697,809 foreign tourist visits in July 2026, up 15.34% from June, according to Statistics Indonesia’s Bali office (BPS Bali) as reported in a press briefing in Denpasar on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

The BPS Bali figure refers to visits by foreign tourists (wisatawan mancanegara, or wisman) during the month. It does not on its own show how many individual people visited Bali, how long they stayed, or how much they spent.

According to BPS Bali official Agus Subadyo, the overall number of foreign tourist visits to Bali rose sharply from June, with European visitors increasing 47.12% month-on-month and contributing to the July total. The agency linked the jump in European arrivals to the summer holiday period in key source markets such as the Netherlands and France.

A stronger July can reflect seasonal travel patterns, school holidays and flight schedules, rather than a guaranteed long-term tourism upswing. Month-on-month data are useful for tracking short-term momentum, but they do not show whether Bali has yet surpassed pre-pandemic levels or earlier seasonal peaks without a longer historical series.

BPS Bali’s July release focused on regional breakdowns rather than a detailed year-on-year comparison for the province. It reported increases in visitors from Europe, Oceania and Asia overall, while noting a 17.01% decline in arrivals from Southeast Asia to 55,248 visits. Without a full Bali-specific annual table, the July figure primarily supports a short-term, month-on-month assessment.

National context

The provincial data sit within a broader national tourism recovery. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that Indonesia recorded about 1.52–1.53 million international tourist arrivals in July 2026, up roughly 9.99–10% from June and 2.95% year-on-year, based on official BPS figures cited by multiple outlets.

At the national level, visitors holding Malaysian passports were the largest group in July, with 228,710 arrivals or about 15% of the total, ahead of tourists from Australia and China. Australia accounted for around 12.34% of arrivals and China for about 10.28%, according to BPS data reported by media and analytics firms.

The national figures provide useful background for Bali but should not be treated as a direct proxy for the island’s visitor mix. A report on international mobility noted that Ngurah Rai International Airport was Indonesia’s main gateway for foreign tourists in July, receiving 697,800 arrivals and dominated by Australian visitors, based on BPS data. However, the detailed nationality breakdown for Bali as a province was not published in full in the available sources.

Looking ahead

BPS Bali’s announcement on 1 September 2026 confirms that July brought a substantial increase in foreign tourist visits to the island compared with June, driven in part by European summer travel and solid growth from Oceania and non-Southeast Asian parts of Asia.
