Denpasar — Bali Governor Wayan Koster said on Friday, October 30, 2026, that the provincial economy remained stable but needed to reduce its dependence on tourism while setting economic targets for the 2027 budget.
Why it matters: The 2027 budget framework targets 6% to 6.5% growth and directs Bali to develop agriculture, digital and creative industries, fisheries, and small businesses alongside tourism.
Koster made the remarks while responding to political factions’ views on the draft 2027 Bali budget during a plenary meeting of the Bali Provincial Legislative Council in Denpasar, according to Tribun Bali.
The governor said foreign tourist arrivals were projected to reach 7.1 million to 7.2 million through the end of 2026. A separate Bali provincial government release put tourism’s contribution to the provincial economy at about 66%, rather than 65%.
The 2027 macroeconomic targets include economic growth of 6% to 6.5%, poverty of 2.75% to 3.4%, a Human Development Index of 79.1 to 80, open unemployment of 1.75% to 2.25% and a Gini ratio of 0.33 to 0.34, according to Bali Post.
The provincial government said the diversification effort would be pursued through the Kerthi Bali Economic Transformation programme, covering integrated agriculture and agro-industry, the creative and digital economy, fisheries, and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The 2026 tourism projection was also reported by NusaBali and the Bali provincial government. The provincial release said Bali had recorded 5.2 million foreign arrivals from January through September 2026 and expected the full-year total to exceed 2025’s 7.05 million.
