Foreign visitors to Bali must account for two separate requirements: Indonesia’s immigration permission and Bali’s foreign-tourist levy. The levy is IDR 150,000 per person, paid once during travel in Bali, while visa duration and eligibility depend on the Indonesian immigration category used.
What is the Bali tourist levy?
The Bali provincial government charges every international tourist who conducts tourism activities in Bali a foreign-tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, according to the Love Bali FAQ, updated in 2026. It applies once during the trip, before the visitor leaves Indonesia.
The policy has been effective since February 14, 2024, according to Bali’s official Love Bali announcement published in 2025. Payment is cashless through the Love Bali system, including before arrival, at designated airport or port counters, or through registered endpoints.
Who is exempt from the levy?
Love Bali lists exemptions including diplomatic and official visa holders, transport crew, KITAS or KITAP holders, family-unification visa holders, student-visa holders, Golden Visa holders and holders of other visas. The official FAQ also says cruise passengers are subject to the levy.
How long can visitors stay on an ordinary visitor visa?
Indonesia’s official e-Visa portal lists a visitor visa allowing a stay of up to 30 days, extendable, with a fee of IDR 500,000, according to the portal’s 2026 information. The visa must be used within 90 days of issue.
The same official portal lists another visitor category allowing up to 60 days, extendable, with a fee of IDR 2,000,000. The applicable category depends on the traveller’s purpose, nationality and supporting requirements.
What passport validity is required?
The official e-Visa information says applicants generally need a passport valid for at least six months. Holders of travel documents other than passports may need validity of 12 months.
Where should travellers check the rules?
The levy rules are published through Bali’s official Love Bali system, while visa categories, fees and document requirements are published through Indonesia’s official e-Visa portal. Travellers should distinguish the provincial levy from immigration permission because paying one does not replace the other.
