Denpasar — Bali residents in areas placed under the highest meteorological-drought warning for the second ten-day period of October 2026 are being urged by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to conserve water and avoid burning land or rubbish.
The warning applies to parts of Bali during the Oct. 11–20 period. BMKG classifies Awas as the highest of its three meteorological-drought warning levels, above Waspada and Siaga. The agency said the warning reflects continuing dry-season conditions and the risk of reduced water availability.
Why Bali’s highest drought warning matters
For foreign residents and visitors, the warning means that water conservation is an official public-service request in affected areas, not a general travel restriction. BMKG says people in areas experiencing the dry season should use water wisely and only as needed. It also asks residents not to burn land or rubbish because dry conditions can increase the risk of fire.
BMKG said about 76 percent of Indonesia was still experiencing the dry season in its written warning issued on Oct. 12. The drought alert also covered areas in several other provinces, including Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and West Nusa Tenggara, as well as parts of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and southern Papua.
The agency further said people should reduce outdoor activity during the afternoon when possible while the dry season continues, particularly in areas listed under the Awas category. The alert is presented on BMKG’s meteorological-drought warning map, where the highest category is marked in red.
