Kupang — Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre transferred 10 foreign detainees to the Kupang Immigration Detention Centre on 14 October 2026, according to reports by Detik Bali and Bali Post. The detainees had been held in Bali before the transfer.
Why it matters: The 10 detainees moved from Bali will undergo further immigration processing in Kupang, while Denpasar’s detainee population falls from 35 to 25.
The group included seven people who had overstayed their permitted periods of stay and three people whose cases were associated with disturbances of security and public order. The transfer was approved by Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration.
Officials said the move was intended to improve facility management and address limitations in the budget allocated for detainees’ meals at the Denpasar centre. Bali Post reported that Denpasar was holding 35 detainees on 14 October, while its available meal budget covered 30 people.
After the transfer, the number of detainees at the Denpasar centre fell to 25. The facility has capacity for 80 people, according to the reports.
The detainees were transferred under escort after administrative and medical checks. Detik Bali reported that 21 officers from the Kupang and Denpasar detention centres and the Bali regional immigration office took part in the operation.
Further immigration handling, including efforts to deport the detainees to their respective countries, will be continued by the Kupang centre, the reports said.
