Indonesia Posts 6.07 Million Foreign Arrivals in January-May 2026

Denpasar — Indonesia recorded 6.07 million international visitor arrivals in the first five months of 2026, up 7.68% from 5.63 million in the same period last year, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) as reported by local media and a regional news agency.

BPS said arrivals in May 2026 reached 1.38 million, bringing the January-May total to 6.07 million. The figure marked the strongest cumulative result for the period since 2020, according to reports citing BPS officials.

The monthly pattern was uneven early in the year, with arrivals at 1.19 million in January, 1.16 million in February and 1.09 million in March before rising to 1.25 million in April and 1.38 million in May. That rebound helped push the five-month total higher than the same period in 2025.

What the data shows

The national total points to steady recovery in Indonesia’s international tourism market, but it does not by itself show how the gains were distributed across provinces, gateways or market segments.

Reports based on BPS data said the May increase was led by visitors from Southeast Asia, while arrivals from other regions also grew. The figures did not show which destinations absorbed the biggest share of the extra visitors.

For Bali, the broader national growth matters because the island remains one of Indonesia’s main entry points and tourism drivers. But the January-May national figures do not confirm how much of the rise flowed to Bali specifically.
