Denpasar — Indonesia’s government has introduced nationwide transport discounts for the 2026 Eid travel period, including a cut of about 17–18 percent on domestic economy-class airfares and 100 percent discounts on certain ferry port service charges, but the incentives were scheduled only for March–April and are no longer in effect by late September 2026.

The measures were framed as a stimulus to support household consumption and mobility during the Eid homecoming season and to ease cost pressures during a period when Bali’s tourism faces a low-season dip in domestic visitors.

Details of the transport incentive package

According to the Ministry of Finance’s Fiscal Policy Agency, the government granted a value-added tax (VAT/PPN) subsidy and other cost adjustments that allowed domestic economy-class airfares17–18 percent

The subsidised flight period ran from 14–29 March 2026

Media reports citing official briefings state that the air-transport stimulus targeted around 3.3 million passengers travelling domestically in economy class during the Eid travel season.

Relation to Bali’s low season

The transport discounts were national in scope, not limited to Bali, but were expected to have indirect benefits for Bali’s economy and tourism by lowering travel costs for domestic visitors.

The Bank Indonesia Bali representative office reported that Bali’s retail sector remained in an optimistic zone in February 2026, with a Real Sales Index of 124.3, up 6.4 percent year on year, even as domestic tourist arrivals showed signs of seasonal softening.

Local reporting attributed the softer domestic tourism to typical low-season factors after the New Year period and ahead of religious holidays such as Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr, when many Indonesians prioritise homecoming over leisure travel.

The government’s national transport incentives were therefore presented by officials as part of a broader effort to sustain consumption and mobility during the Eid season, while regional stakeholders in Bali pointed to them as one element helping to cushion low-season effects on the island’s retail and tourism-related activity.

Time limits and current availability

All published schedules for the 2026 transport incentives show that the discounted airfares, ferry-port waivers and rail promotions were restricted to March–early April 2026, coinciding with the Eid homecoming period.
