Badung — Australian visitors accounted for 1,3 juta arrivals in Bali through the end of September 2026, or about 25 percent of foreign arrivals, as TransNusa added a Melbourne service from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Oct. 19.
The new service gives travellers another option on the Bali–Melbourne route. The route is now served by seven airlines: Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air Malaysia, Qantas, Indonesia AirAsia and TransNusa.
The airport’s general manager, Nugroho Jati, said the additional airline was expected to support arrivals from Australia. The reports said TransNusa’s service was scheduled to operate seven times a week, while the airport had 63 routes operated by 50 airlines through the end of September 2026.
Why it matters to Bali visitors
For Australians, the added service means greater choice when travelling directly between Melbourne and Bali. For visitors already on the island, the expanded connection also supports onward travel between Bali and Melbourne.
The airport’s network included 22 domestic routes and 41 international routes linking Bali with 16 countries. Australia remained Bali’s largest foreign visitor market through September, with 1,3 juta arrivals.
The reports said Ngurah Rai Airport would continue coordinating with airlines and other stakeholders to expand air connectivity. No further timetable beyond the stated TransNusa schedule was provided.
