Nusa Penida — Daily visitor numbers fell below 3,000 from Oct. 8, after averaging more than 4,000 at the start of October.
The decline came as the island entered its low season and Bali faced a shortage of fuel. The figures refer to visits to tourist destinations in Nusa Penida, in Klungkung Regency.
Nusa Penida’s slowdown matters for visitors and tourism businesses
For foreign visitors, the figures indicate a quieter period on the island than earlier in October, while businesses that depend on day-trip traffic face fewer arrivals. The change was attributed to both seasonal conditions and fuel scarcity, which made travel more difficult across Bali.
Visits had been above 3,000 people a day throughout September 2026. In early October, the average rose to more than 4,000 visitors a day before the trend changed in the second week of the month. The decline became visible on Oct. 8 and continued to below 3,000 visitors per day.
I Gusti Agung Gde Putra Mahajaya, head of the Klungkung Regency Tourism Office, said the fuel shortage had affected tourist activity. Speedboat crossings from Sanur in Denpasar and Kusamba in Klungkung were still operating normally on Oct. 14, although operators had fuel supplies for only daily needs.
