Ngurah Rai Airport Handles 13.2 Million Passengers in January–July 2026

Denpasar — I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali recorded 13.2 million passenger movements from January to July 2026, with international routes accounting for the majority of traffic, according to the airport operator and a statement by General Manager Nugroho Jati.

The airport handled 8.5 million international passengers and 4.7 million domestic passengers over the seven-month period, figures reported by Nugroho in a statement received in Denpasar in late August 2026. On that basis, international services represented roughly two-thirds of total passenger movements.

Passenger totals refer to movements through flights rather than unique individuals. A traveler flying into Bali and later departing is counted at least twice in these statistics, which are compiled by the airport operator InJourney Airports.

International routes lead airport activity

InJourney Airports reported around 80,000 aircraft movements at Ngurah Rai during the January–July 2026 period. Nugroho said this comprised about 43,000 international flights and 36,000 domestic flights. The rounded figures total 79,000 movements.

International demand was concentrated on key regional hubs. Routes to and from Singapore carried 1.5 million passengers, making it the busiest overseas connection. Kuala Lumpur followed with 903,000 passengers. Australian links were also strong, with Perth, Melbourne and Sydney routes handling 687,000, 630,000 and 494,000 passengers respectively.

According to Nugroho, international operations at Ngurah Rai involved 44 airlines operating 42 routes across 16 countries, with Australia contributing the largest number of international connections at 12 routes.

Ngurah Rai also served as the main gateway for foreign visitors to Bali. Data from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office cited by the airport show that four million international tourists arrived in Bali via the airport between January and July 2026. Australian nationals were the largest group, accounting for one million arrivals, or about one quarter of the total. They were followed by visitors from China with 358,000 arrivals, India with 327,000, South Korea with 174,000 and the United Kingdom with 172,000.

Domestic traffic supports regional links

Domestic traffic was led by the Cengkareng–Jakarta route, which recorded 2.1 million passengers over the first seven months of the year. Surabaya ranked second with 738,000 passengers, followed by Labuan Bajo with 309,000, Makassar with 258,000 and Lombok Praya with 253,000.

The airport handled 24 domestic routes served by 11 airlines during the period, reinforcing its role as a hub linking Bali with other Indonesian destinations including Labuan Bajo and Lombok. Some travelers use Ngurah Rai to connect between international flights and other parts of Indonesia, meaning domestic passenger totals include both Bali-bound and transfer traffic.

In addition to passengers, Ngurah Rai processed significant cargo volumes. The airport recorded 67,000 tonnes of cargo from January to July 2026, of which international freight accounted for 50,000 tonnes and domestic cargo for 17,000 tonnes.
