Mangupura — Six tourism villages accounted for more than 92 percent of recorded visits to Badung’s tourism villages between January and July 2026, according to data presented by the Badung Tourism Agency and reported by BaliPost.com. Munggu led the district’s tourism villages with 145,526 visits, narrowly ahead of Sangeh with 144,665.
The figures indicate that visitor activity remains heavily concentrated in a small group of destinations, despite Badung’s broader village-based tourism programme. The data were outlined by Badung Tourism Agency head AA Putri Mas Agung on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, in Mangupura.
The six leading villages were reported as:
- Munggu: 145,526 visits, or 25.6 percent of the total.
- Sangeh: 144,665 visits, or 25.4 percent.
- Mengwi: 87,303 visits, or 15.4 percent.
- Bongkasa: 65,315 visits, or 11.5 percent.
- Carangsari: 50,244 visits, or 8.8 percent.
- Bongkasa Pertiwi: 30,500 visits, or 5.4 percent.
Together, these six destinations recorded 523,553 visits out of a district total of 568,582 for the seven-month period, equivalent to just over 92 percent of all reported tourism village visits. BaliPost.com reported that AA Putri Mas Agung described the pattern as evidence of strong appeal in several established destinations, while underscoring the need to spread visitor flows more evenly across the district’s tourism villages.
Concentration led by Munggu and Sangeh
Munggu’s lead over Sangeh was 861 recorded visits over the January–July period. Combined, the two villages received 290,191 visits, or about 51 percent of all tourism village visits recorded in Badung’s reporting system for the seven months.
According to the Badung Tourism Agency data cited by BaliPost.com, 18 tourism villages were included in the January–July 2026 reporting base. Four of these villages recorded fewer than 1,000 visits during the period, highlighting the gap between the most and least visited destinations.
The agency’s figures classify the totals as “visits” and distinguish between international and domestic visitors. The report does not specify whether a visit represents ticketed entries, arrivals, tour bookings, transactions, repeat entries or unique individuals.
International and domestic segments
International visitors contributed 310,636 recorded visits, or 54.6 percent of the total, during the first seven months of 2026. Domestic visitors accounted for 257,946 visits, or 45.4 percent, according to the same Badung Tourism Agency data.
Local tourism planning documents from the Badung administration emphasise the importance of increasing both international and domestic visitor numbers, using village-based tourism as one of the tools to spread economic benefits. The concentration of visits in a handful of villages suggests that this objective has only been partially achieved so far.
Previous years and reporting base
The Badung Tourism Agency’s village tourism data show that annual visit totals have fluctuated in recent years. According to BaliPost.com’s summary of agency figures, recorded annual visits stood at 374,240 in 2022, rose to 1,739,372 in 2023, fell to 891,760 in 2024 and increased to 959,772 in 2025.
The reporting base has also changed. Agency documents and supporting material list 17 designated tourism villages in Badung under local regulations, with an additional village entering the reporting system from 2025 onward. BaliPost.com reported that 17 villages were included in the annual data from 2022 through 2024, and 18 from 2025 onward.
Context
The 2026 figures cover only seven months, making them an incomplete basis for full-year comparisons. However, they point clearly to uneven distribution within the district’s tourism villages.
Munggu, Sangeh, Mengwi, Bongkasa, Carangsari and Bongkasa Pertiwi together generated more than nine-tenths of all reported visits to Badung’s tourism villages from January through July 2026. Badung’s tourism authorities have signalled that future policy will need to focus not only on raising overall visitor numbers, but also on encouraging more balanced flows across lesser-known villages.
