Denpasar — The student executive body of Universitas Udayana held a symbolic action at the Bali Car Free Day area in Renon on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, beginning at 07:00 WITA (UTC+8). Students and visitors raised three fingers and invited the public to write down their concerns on a vinyl billboard.
The action took place despite rain and focused on unresolved public issues, including forest and land fires, corruption, Bali’s provincial minimum wage, and fuel queues. Participants also collected donations for people affected by forest and land fires in Kalimantan.
Why the Renon action matters to foreign residents and visitors
For people living in or visiting Bali, the event shows how public concerns can enter a prominent weekend gathering without taking the form of a conventional demonstration. The Car Free Day area is a public space in central Denpasar, and the activity involved visitors as well as students.
The three-finger gesture served as a symbolic expression of concern. The writing activity offered another way for members of the public to participate, including by reading the messages or contributing to the fundraising effort. The issues raised extended beyond Bali: the organizers also highlighted fires in Kalimantan, alongside national concerns about corruption and fuel availability.
Ni Kadek Sri Yulianti, the coordinator for analysis and movement at the student executive body of Universitas Udayana, said the symbolic format was chosen because not everyone felt able to express an opinion directly through a demonstration. The student body planned to carry the collected messages into a subsequent action as a representation of the voices of people in Bali.
