Badung — Joint search-and-rescue teams continued looking on Nov. 6 for two people missing after a landslide at Pelaga Eco Park in Petang, Badung, as the operation entered its fifth day. The missing people were Bangkit Khoirul Mubarok, an Indonesian citizen, and Sacha Erich Schubert, a German citizen.
The search had produced no result by Friday. Teams from the National Search and Rescue Agency, Badung’s disaster-management agency, police units and other responders worked through unstable terrain and thick mud. Heavy equipment could not reach the site because the access route was too difficult, leaving rescuers to clear material and search manually.
Why the Pelaga search matters to visitors
The incident involved guests staying at a glamping site in a mountainous part of Badung, a regency visited by both Indonesian and international travelers. For foreign visitors, the case underscores that emergency response in remote areas can depend on access roads, terrain and manual crews rather than excavators or other heavy machinery.
Search teams examined both the landslide area and waterways below it. Reports said the operation extended along the river, with responders working toward downstream areas while continuing to remove mud from the main site. Changing weather and steep, difficult ground further complicated the effort.
The two missing guests were among people staying at the site when the landslide struck. Twenty-one others were reported to have escaped. Responders planned to continue the search in downstream sections and use manual methods where machinery could not be deployed.
