Denpasar — Bali Governor I Wayan Koster extended the odd-even vehicle-number rule for subsidized fuel purchases across Bali from Oct. 20 through Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. The extension followed an earlier arrangement that was due to end on Monday.
The change comes as queues at several filling stations began to ease and fuel distribution gradually returned to normal. Koster said the policy could be reviewed and ended before Oct. 23 if supplies, distribution and queues fully stabilized.
For foreign residents and visitors using vehicles in Bali, the rule means that subsidized fuel service depends on the final digit of the vehicle’s license plate matching the calendar date. Vehicles with even-numbered plates may buy fuel on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22, while vehicles with odd-numbered plates may do so on Oct. 21 and Oct. 23. The reports do not state that the rule applies to every type of fuel or vehicle service beyond the subsidized-fuel arrangement.
Why it matters to readers in Bali
The arrangement can affect road travel across the island because it applies at public fuel stations throughout Bali. It does not apply to ambulances, fire trucks, logistics vehicles, public passenger vehicles, or vehicles transporting food, beverages and daily necessities.
The extension was announced after a coordination meeting at the Sanggaran fuel terminal in Denpasar involving Koster and Pertamina. The earlier implementation had reduced congestion at stations, but officials kept the measure in place to protect fuel distribution and service conditions. Pertamina said the arrangement remained valid through Oct. 23, 2026.
What happens next depends on conditions at the stations. Koster said officials would evaluate the rule before Oct. 23 if fuel provision, distribution and queues returned to normal.
