Denpasar — Bali’s cooperative sector has at least one institution formally recognised in the national mapping of large cooperatives, with Koperasi Simpan Pinjam (KSP) Guna Prima Dana named as the province’s biggest savings and loan cooperative and the only cooperative KUR distributor in Bali, according to Peluang Media Group and the cooperative’s own announcement in 2025.

The latest mapping appears in the fifth edition of 100 Koperasi Besar Indonesia 2025, written by Irsyad Muchtar and published by Majalah Peluang. The book profiles 300 cooperatives nationwide across three categories — 100 large cooperatives, 100 progressive cooperatives and 100 large potential cooperatives — based on financial statements, legality and growth performance. According to Peluang’s launch coverage, the 300 cooperatives collectively manage around Rp96.5 trillion in assets, equal to roughly 35 percent of total cooperative assets in Indonesia, with a combined business volume of about Rp80.85 trillion and more than 9.1 million members.

Peluang’s reporting describes asset groupings that range from Rp2 trillion to Rp6 trillion at the top end, followed by bands of Rp1 trillion to below Rp2 trillion, Rp500 billion to below Rp1 trillion, and below Rp500 billion. The "large" label is applied to cooperatives that pass Peluang’s asset and performance thresholds, but publicly available accounts focus on these broad ranges rather than a single numerical cut-off.

Bali’s role in the national mapping

Local and sectoral media note that Bali is among the contributors to the 100 Koperasi Besar Indonesia 2025 list, although they do not provide a full breakdown of how many Bali-based cooperatives are included. A report on the book’s launch in Seminyak, Badung, records that the publication is regarded as a map of Indonesia’s cooperative “economic strength”, but it does not spell out province-by-province counts.

In an announcement on its website, KSP Guna Prima Dana states that the cooperative has been recognised as "the largest savings and loan cooperative in Bali" and as one of the 100 Koperasi Besar Indonesia 2025 organised by Peluang Media Group. The same statement says Peluang’s team considered 46 cooperatives from Bali and that Guna Prima Dana ranked first by assets among them, qualifying for inclusion in the national list of 300 large cooperatives.

Other publicly accessible reports confirm that Guna Prima Dana received the 100 KBI 2025 award at the launch event in Seminyak.

Guna Prima Dana’s asset position

Guna Prima Dana’s 2024 financial position underpins its classification in the higher asset band. Its own 2024 accountability report cites total assets of approximately Rp637.5 billion at the end of December 2024. Coverage of the cooperative’s annual meeting and digitalisation programme by Peluang News also reports assets of around Rp637 billion at year-end 2024, with management targeting Rp1 trillion in the coming years.

Later updates from sector media indicate that the cooperative’s assets continued to grow in 2025, rising to about Rp715 billion by July and to around Rp730 billion by October. These figures place Guna Prima Dana firmly in Peluang’s Rp500 billion–below Rp1 trillion band for the 2025 edition.

National context and KUR role

According to Peluang’s editor and the cooperative’s own statement, Guna Prima Dana is described as the only cooperative in Bali that distributes Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR), the government-backed small business loan scheme. This positioning strengthens its role in local financing beyond tourism, though available reports do not disclose detailed KUR disbursement values, borrower numbers or comparisons with commercial banks.

The broader national mapping underscores the weight of large cooperatives in Indonesia’s economy. Peluang and other business media report that the 300 cooperatives profiled in the 2025 book account for roughly a third of national cooperative assets and nearly half of business volume.

In Bali, however, public data from the mapping are limited: outside Guna Prima Dana’s published figures and status, there is no accessible list of other Bali cooperatives in the 100 KBI 2025 book or a province-level breakdown of assets, members or growth trends.

For policymakers and investors, this means the available information offers a snapshot of leading institutions rather than a full ranking of every cooperative operating on the island.
