Klungkung — Klungkung officials have highlighted Tukad Melangit in Bakas Village, Banjarangkan District, as a river with potential for rafting-based sport tourism, but the available sources support an existing rafting activity there rather than a newly launched government tourism program.
Local government tourism materials describe Tukad Melangit as suitable for rafting, while local reporting says the river has long been used for rafting operators and adventure trips. A 2023 report from an established local outlet said the Melangit River rafting route in Bakas stretches about 7.5 kilometres and is one of the better-known adventure activities in Klungkung.
The district’s sport-development angle is also reflected in reporting on the Klungkung branch of the Indonesian Rafting Federation, or FAJI. That report said the federation was established on 10 April 2023 and that the district government handed over rafting equipment and support ahead of a Bali regional championship.
What the sources confirm
According to the provincial tourism portal, the Tukad Melangit area has river conditions suitable for rafting. Local media coverage likewise places rafting activity in Bakas, Klungkung, and identifies the river as a tourism attraction already used by commercial operators.
The 2023 local report said the route is about 7.5 kilometres long and that the area had become part of Klungkung’s adventure-tourism offer. It did not describe the river as a new attraction awaiting opening, but as an established rafting location.
Coverage of FAJI Klungkung said the federation received boats, helmets and life jackets from the district government while preparing athletes for competition. The report framed the support as part of sports development, not as a permit or licence for commercial tourism operations.
Tourism and sport, but not a new launch
That means the strongest verified version of the story is more modest than the draft’s framing: Klungkung is presenting Tukad Melangit as a place with sport-tourism potential, while rafting itself already exists there through private operators.
Neither source confirms a newly approved district-run rafting attraction, a public opening date, or a government-operated visitor programme on Tukad Melangit. The confirmed facts point instead to an established rafting site that the district sees as useful for both sport training and tourism promotion.
Local reporting on adventure operators in the area also indicates that the river has been marketed for rafting for some time. A tourism listing from the provincial government’s Love Bali platform similarly describes the Melangit river area as suitable for rafting activities.
Why it matters
Klungkung’s interest matters because the regency has long promoted a mix of nature, culture and outdoor activities. Tukad Melangit fits that pattern, but the sources support only the existence of rafting and the government’s sport-development support, not the launch of a new public tourism scheme.
For now, the verified picture is clear: Tukad Melangit is already a rafting location, and district officials have shown support for rafting as a sport and as part of Klungkung’s tourism identity. What has not been confirmed is any new government-operated rafting attraction or formal rollout date.
