Missing fisherman found dead off Karangasem’s Bukit Asah

Karangasem — I Kadek Agus Mahendra, 21, a fisherman from Klungkung who disappeared while fishing at Bukit Asah Beach in Bugbug, was found dead on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, during the fifth day of a search.

The body was found in waters south of Biyaha Island, about two nautical miles west of the site where Mahendra fell into the sea. Basarnas Karangasem, the local search-and-rescue office, said the body was located at about 08:00 WITA and was later taken to Klungkung Regional Hospital at the family’s request.

The case is a reminder that coastal areas used for fishing and recreation can become dangerous quickly, particularly where people stand on exposed rocks near open water. Local fishermen first reported the floating body, and the family later confirmed its identity.

The body was evacuated from the waters and transported to Klungkung Regional Hospital. The reports do not state any broader change to beach access or further search operations after the recovery.
