Singaraja — Two people died on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after a motorcycle traveling on a steep downhill road in Selat, Sukasada, Buleleng, allegedly experienced a braking problem and struck a tree.
The motorcycle was traveling north from the south when it became unstable on the descent and hit a large tree on the western side of the road.
The victims were identified as Lilik Prianto, 47, the rider, and Faisal Syachori, 47, the passenger. Both suffered bleeding around the nose and ears. Residents initially helped them, but both later died at a hospital.
The report attributed confirmation of the crash to Yohana, the public-information officer of the Buleleng Police precinct. Police said the preliminary account pointed to the rider’s lack of caution in assessing the road and the vehicle’s condition, while noting that the exact cause still required further investigation.
Why the crash matters to people traveling through North Bali
The incident highlights the risk posed by steep rural roads in Buleleng, where braking problems and difficulty controlling a vehicle can turn a short descent into a fatal crash. For foreign visitors and residents, the report’s practical significance is that a motorcycle’s braking system and the rider’s familiarity with the route are central safety concerns on Bali’s sharply descending roads.
Unit Lantas Polsek Sukasada, the traffic unit of the Sukasada Police sector, conducted a scene investigation and installed a police line. The case remains under the handling of that unit.
