Badung regent ties economic growth to adat and temple protection

Bualu — Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa has linked the regency’s economic growth to the protection of adat institutions, traditions and places of worship during a major religious ceremony at Pura Ibu Panti Dukuh Bualu in Benoa on Monday, 7 September 2026.

According to the Badung Regency government’s public information service, Adi Arnawa attended the ceremony at Wantilan Dadia Bualu, Kelurahan Benoa, South Kuta, where he signed a prasasti karya marking the implementation of Karya Mamungkah, Ngenteg Linggih, Pedudusan Wraspati Kalpa, Caru Rsi Gana Utama and Nyurud Ayu at Pura Ibu Panti Dukuh Bualu.

Local media reporting on the event said the peak pujawali at the temple was scheduled for Anggara Kliwon Wuku Prangbakat, Tuesday, 15 September 2026.

Tourism, culture and economic resilience

In his remarks, Adi Arnawa underlined that Balinese culture and spirituality are both ancestral inheritances and social capital supporting tourism in Badung. He stressed that the regency’s reliance on tourism made the protection of adat institutions and places of worship essential to economic resilience.

He was quoted as saying that tourism conditions can change quickly, and that development policies should not focus only on increasing locally generated revenue but also on maintaining the cultural and spiritual environment that attracts visitors.

The regent referred to Badung’s significant role in Bali’s economy and noted that tourism remains vulnerable to external disruptions, though the official release did not detail the underlying data or methodology for the figures mentioned.

Infrastructure and temple facilities in Bualu

The Badung administration’s statement said the regent used the occasion to reiterate plans to improve facilities at major temples and in surrounding public areas. He highlighted priorities including temple infrastructure, transport access, pedestrian routes and parking facilities in tourism-supporting areas.

Bualu was described by officials as a strategic area supporting the international tourism zone of Nusa Dua, with infrastructure improvements intended to enhance access and visitor comfort while encouraging longer stays and wider economic benefits for local businesses and residents.

The statement did not specify which individual projects, temple compounds or transport corridors would be upgraded, nor did it set out budgets, construction timetables or completion targets.

Ceremony participants and community role

The regent’s visit formed part of a larger ceremony attended by members of the Badung Regional Representative Council (DPRD), subdistrict officials from South Kuta, the Benoa urban village head, the Bualu customary village leader and members of the Dukuh community.

According to the government release, ceremony organiser I Wayan Garta, serving as Manggala Prawartaka Karya, expressed appreciation to the regent for facilitating the development of Pura Ibu Panti Dukuh Bualu. Local reporting has previously noted that major works at the temple have relied on community contributions and faced challenges over construction quality and completion in earlier phases.

The 7 September ceremony thus connected a local religious observance with the administration’s broader message that tourism development in Badung depends on maintaining Bali’s cultural and spiritual landscape through support for temple facilities and related infrastructure.
