Legian — Badung regency officials and community organisations will hold the 24th anniversary commemoration of the 2002 Bali bombings at the Ground Zero memorial in Legian on 12 October 2026.

Why it matters: The commemoration will affect access around Jalan Raya Legian, where traffic diversions are scheduled from 16:00 to 20:00 WITA on 12 October 2026.

The event is intended to remember the victims and reinforce a message of peace. The ceremony is coordinated by Badung’s National Unity and Politics Agency with the Isana Dewata Foundation, Kuta Community Empowerment Institution and Kuta Forum for Religious Harmony, according to Balipost and Detik Bali.

The programme is scheduled to begin at 17:00 WITA with a Peace Song, an interfaith prayer and flower-laying at the memorial. Organisers expect it to finish at about 20:00 WITA, Balipost and NusaBali reported.

Traffic diversion

Badung’s Transportation Agency has announced traffic diversions around Jalan Raya Legian from 16:00 to 20:00 WITA to support the peace prayer. Diversions will be implemented at four junctions, including Legian–Patih Jelantik, Patimura–Legian, Patimura–Majapahit and Benesari–Legian, according to NusaBali.

Officials said the annual gathering would be conducted in a simplified format, with the main focus on a collective prayer. Representatives of victims’ families and consulates from 21 countries were scheduled to attend, Detik Bali reported.

The 2002 attack killed 202 people. The Ground Zero memorial on Jalan Legian was established to commemorate the victims, according to Indonesia’s official tourism portal.
