Singaraja — On Oct. 12, the Bengkel village government in Busungbiu, Buleleng, said preparations begun in 2024 were being refined, with the tourism-village launch targeted for 2027. The project combines terraced rice fields, trekking routes, hills, Santhi Phala Waterfall and historical remains.
The village is developing the destination around natural and historical assets while working on site arrangements, management, supporting facilities and research into Bengkel’s history. The plan includes a historical account for local guides, environmental cleanliness management, support for micro, small and medium enterprises, and improvements to residents’ skills and early-childhood education facilities.
Why Bengkel’s 2027 target matters
For visitors, the proposal points to a destination that is still being organized rather than a fully launched tourism village. The planned attractions include trekking through terraced farmland and access to Santhi Phala Waterfall, which the village intends to develop for spiritual tourism and recreation.
Bengkel is also described as an old village with prehistoric sarcophagi and historical traces extending from the Lumbanan era to the modern period. Research is intended to support a village-history book that can serve as a reference for local guides.
The development has a broader local-economic purpose. The village government says it is working with the customary village, academics, local businesses and residents so tourism can create new opportunities while remaining sustainable. The village’s official website also identifies Bengkel as a tourism village and presents local trekking activity, while the Buleleng regency government describes the project as combining natural and historical potential.
The 2027 target remains a planned launch, not a statement that all facilities or attractions are already complete. The village government is still refining destinations, governance, supporting facilities, environmental management and community capacity.
